Cocktail bar in Chester

The cocktail bar "The Architect" in Chester, England, is a classic pub-restaurant that belongs to the renowned Brunning & Price group, distinguished by its historical significance and idyllic location. It is situated within the city walls of Chester, overlooking the famous Roodee racecourse, and lies right next to the Abode Hotel, making it a popular spot for visitors and locals alike. The pub's name honors Thomas Harrison, a notable Georgian architect who originally designed the building as his own residence. Harrison was also responsible for designing the Grosvenor Bridge and large parts of Chester Castle, adding an extra layer of cultural depth to the venue.

The interior of "The Architect" is divided into two distinct areas, each offering its own atmosphere. Walking to the right through a glass connecting hallway, one enters the original Georgian part of the building, which impresses with cozy, homely spaces. These rooms are perfect as intimate dining areas in a classic style, exuding a calm, traditional warmth. Conversely, going left leads to the modern garden room – a spacious, open area with a large bar at its center, creating a lively, typical pub atmosphere. This space opens up through glass doors to a terrace, which offers a popular spot for dining and relaxing in good weather. Outside, a vast beer garden with picnic tables provides an oasis after a day in the city during the summer. The walls are decorated with interesting prints and artworks, giving the pub a unique touch.

Historical attractions in Chester

Culinary offerings at "The Architect" feature an elevated version of British pub cuisine with a focus on fresh, seasonal ingredients. The Sunday Roast is particularly popular, served with succulent meat – such as beef or lamb – crispy roast potatoes, and a fluffy Yorkshire pudding, accompanied by rich gravy. The Fish Cakes, served with a delicate sauce, are also a guest favorite, providing a light yet flavorful option. The menu includes a variety of dishes, from light sandwiches to hearty main courses like the Lamb Burger, served with fresh sides. The kitchen aims to appeal to both traditional diners and guests with modern tastes, and the daily changing specials ensure variety.

British pub cuisine with cocktails

The drink selection is another highlight, with the cocktail bar playing a significant role. In addition to a comprehensive range of cask ales – typically six different types on tap – "The Architect" offers a wide array of cocktails that include both classic recipes and creative house specialties. The bar takes pride in its well-kept beers, often sourced from local breweries, and boasts an impressive collection of single malt whiskies that delight connoisseurs. The wine list is also carefully curated, providing options that perfectly complement the dishes. Service is typical of a British pub: guests order at the bar, but food is brought to the table. The staff is friendly and professional, although it can be a bit busier on lively days – such as during the racing season or in the summer.

The guys that looked after us did a really nice job and it made our special occasion for a big birthday really a nice time.Food was delicious and we especially enjoyed being able to have our own area.We would be really happy to come back, the only thing I would say is a downside is the small carpark as some had to park over at Linenhall. But on the whole, friendly staff and a lovely atmosphere

Fantastic food and very prompt service considering it was so busy. We hired a private upstairs space for a baby shower and the room was beautiful. A super big round table and very friendly and efficient staff! Compliments to the chef- wonderful food!! And we are vegetarian and vegan and had great options. Thank you for a lovely afternoon. Definitely recommend a visit. ☺️
